PGA of Canada Professional — Five Decades of Passion for the Game
Doug Gleed brings a rare depth of experience to Sturgeon Point Golf Club — as a teacher, an administrator, and a lifelong advocate for growing the game in Canadian communities.
Doug’s career in golf began at Cedarhurst Golf Club in 1972, where he started as a back shop attendant. By 1977, he had risen to
General Manager and Head Professional — a role that would set the course for a career defined by leadership and a commitment to excellence.
Doug is thrilled to be at Sturgeon Point Golf Club, and looks forward to helping every member and guest get more from their game — wherever they are on their golf journey.
Achievements
Among his most notable achievements, Doug designed and built Innisfil Creek Golf Club in Barrie in 1996 — Canada’s first 12-hole golf course — and partnered with the Canadian Junior Golf Tour to host junior camps there for many years. He also owned and operated Northern Greens Golf Center in Newmarket, a hub for instruction and youth development, and served for a decade as a volunteer board member of the Durham Junior Golf Tour.
Perhaps the achievement Doug is most proud of: all three of his children played varsity golf. His daughter, Jodi Rutherford — ladies club champion at Coppinwood GC — earned a golf scholarship to the University of Texas at El Paso.
Positions Held
Doug has served as president of both Bonaire Golf Club in Orillia and Cedarhurst Golf Club, and has spent recent seasons instructing at Western Trent Golf Club and with the junior program at Cedarhurst GC.
