Conduct & Etiquette
A Club Where Everyone Belongs
For 125 years, Sturgeon Point Golf Club has been a gathering place — for families, neighbours, and visitors who share a love of the game and the community that surrounds it. We are committed to ensuring that every person who sets foot on this property feels safe, respected, and genuinely welcome. The following principles guide how we treat one another on the course and around the clubhouse.
Our Code of Conduct
- Abusive language or conduct of any kind is not permitted anywhere on SPGC grounds.
- Behaviour that demeans any person — on the basis of race, ethnicity, faith, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or physical or intellectual ability — will not be tolerated.
- Threats or acts of physical violence will not be tolerated and may be reported to police immediately.
- Unwanted sexual advances, inappropriate touching, or lewd comments directed at our staff, members or guests will result in the immediate removal of the individual from our facility, potential suspension of club privileges, and possible prosecution.
- Concerns about SPGC services or products should be raised respectfully with Management or the Board. Our staff deserve to be treated with courtesy at all times. Abusive behaviour toward staff will be investigated and addressed seriously.
- Our Board and Management will respond to all reports of conduct that makes any person feel uncomfortable or unwelcome on our property.
These expectations apply equally to employees, members, guests, and all visitors to SPGC. Questions may be directed to the Manager or Board of Directors.
Course Etiquette — Playing with Pace and Consideration
When there are more candidates than Board positions, an election is held at the Annual General Meeting. All adult members are eligible to vote, with balloting conducted through a combination of online and paper formats shortly after nominations close.
General:
- Groups are limited to four players.
- Keep pace with the group ahead of you.
- If a faster group approaches from behind, invite them to play through — it’s a sign of good golf character.
On the Tee:
- Tee off as soon as the group ahead is safely clear.
- The player who is ready — or the shorter hitter — should go first. Save ‘honours’ for match play.
- Always carry a spare ball and keep an eye on your playing partners’ shots.
On the Fairway:
- Play when ready and when it’s safe — no need to stand on ceremony.
- Go directly to your ball so you’re ready to play.
- If you lose a ball, have everyone hit first before beginning the search.
On the Green:
- Leave your bag between the green and the next tee to save time.
- Read your putt while others are putting — be ready when your turn arrives.
- Record scores as you walk to the next tee, not while standing on the green.
Caring for Our Course
The exceptional condition of our course is a shared responsibility — and a shared source of pride. We ask every player to repair ball marks on the greens and replace or sand divots on the fairways. If you’re unsure of the best technique, our Pro Shop team is always happy to help. A few seconds of care on your part makes the course better for every player who follows.
